Installing a fountain in your home or office is a great idea to improve the dcor. But it is no good if you simply get the water fountain and is not able to maintain it or take care of it properly. Because a fountain that does not work will not be an agreeable sight, neither will it look good if the water is smelling or if there are cob webs all around it. Fountain care is critical to keep your fountain in perfect condition.

But fountains come in different types like indoor and out of doors fountains that are meant for the gardens. Then there are wall, floor and table top fountains. Not everything will work for all. And so you need to be careful. Many sellers are already providing the details for the benefit of their customers.

Here are some fountain care tips that can be of help…

Your Water Level : what’s the right water level in a fountain? This is a critical question . The most important thing to remember is not to let the pump run dry because your guaranty does not include a damaged pump if it is running dry.

Cleaning The Fountain : Another vital side of fountain care. Remember, algae can grow in the water and this could block the channels thru which the water will flow. And so, the rocks, the bowl and the pump need to be cleaned from time to time. You have to clean the fountain at least four times each year, but some do it every 2 months.

The overflow systems are complicated making certain that there’s very less valve blocking. They also come with anti-microbial coating. But do make sure that the water you are pouring does not contain a high level of minerals.
.

They may require a little bit of work to maintain and take care of, but water fountains are definitely worth the trouble because they bring so much more to your home and garden that it is an investment to be sure. Plus these fountains last quite a while if maintained and properly taken care of, so invest in a good one and watch your garden come alive with just that simple addition. Fountains are kept outdoors all the time (unless you choose to go for an indoor fountain of course), and being outside they would catch a lot of debris and dirt from the environment.

Everything you cherish needs care. Think of all the curios you have. They require regular dusting and cleaning. Think of all the appliances you have. They too need regular caring. So will your water fountain. However, it is a trouble worth taking because a fountain gives you much more than visual delight and earthly comfort. They are not only a joy to behold; they are a treat to the eye and music to the ear. Water fountains do not lesson your day-to-day chores, but they make such chores bearable. They rejuvenate you and make you ready to bear or the mundane everyday jobs with a smile.

Most of the water fountains are meant for installation in the gardens and patios, although some are meant for indoor use. The outdoor fountains are naturally exposed more to debris and dirt and should therefore require special care. Although they are made from different materials, buying one that is made from architectural concrete like cast stone is best because concrete fountains are not only durable but also easily maintainable. Fountains made from metals like copper and aluminum is durable too, but they are not that easy to maintain. Those that are made from fiberglass may be easy to maintain, but they can never be as durable as concrete.

Water fountains seem to be especially popular in Italy and Rome, and we can look back to them for inspiration for many of the fountain designs we see nowadays. The function and beauty of the fountains that were first designed by the ancients in Italy and Rome had no match – they were some truly beautiful designs. Fountains have always had both practical and aesthetic purposes, and the more artistically designed they are, the more beauty they add to the surrounding environment. They are not exactly as hard to maintain as you might think. They do require some upkeep because you want them to last you a lifetime like they are supposed to anyway, but that won’t happen unless you put some effort into taking care of them as well.

Almost everything needs some amount of looking after no matter what the item is, and concrete fountains are the same. With a few of these basic maintenance tips to keep in mind, you can help make sure that your fountain is kept in top condition the way it is supposed to be:
 Once you have your water fountains for example all set and ready in your home, all you need to do is make sure they get cleaned now and again. You do not have to do this every single day so don’t worry about that. Because the water is constantly moving, it is not likely to trap dirt or dust in it all too quickly. But these fountains do require a good wipe down every now and again, preferably once a week if you can manage.
 Make sure the proper water levels are maintain. Water will evaporate, even with the indoor water fountain so from time to time you will have to add on the water just to make sure your beautiful fountain doesn’t run dry. At least check your water levels once a week just to be sure because you don’t want to let the reticulating pump run dry as this will burn it out and spoil the fountain.

If the temperature of your area goes below the freezing point, bring the fountain inside the house or cover it securely with a fountain cover. Follow the above guidelines for the rest of the months. It does not take much to keep your fountain spick and span, running year after year. However, unless you bring one home you will never realize how very beneficial it is and how very easy is the upkeep. It is not really harder than keeping the kitchen clean or straightening the mess in the kid’s room. Trust me.

Of all available fountains, copper fountains require the most maintenance. They look good and the metal adds a depth to the sound of the flowing water. You can find copper wall fountains, copper table fountains and copper garden fountains. Whatever the design of the fountain, here are a few maintenance tips that will enhance and lengthen the life of your copper fountain.

Copper fountains are available in a natural finish and with a clear coating. Copper turns green over the passing of time because of oxidation. This powder coating or clear coating is an enamel finish that has been baked in extreme heat and applied to the copper surface to prevent it from turning green. To clean a copper fountain with this coating, you can use furniture polish and a soft cloth once a week.

Using car wax every few months will keep the copper fountain shining and protect it from oxidation. Do not use copper polish because this will remove the enamel coating. If the copper fountain that you have has white spots, you can use a calcium lime remover.

However, if the fountain has a natural copper finish, do not use the calcium lime remover or wax. It will ruin the fountain surface. Instead, just clean it with ordinary furniture polish and a soft cloth.

Copper darkens in bright sunlight. So, another method of maintaining your copper water fountain is by placing it in a relatively shady area. The climate of the area and the water used plays a vital role in the aging process of a copper fountain. Pay attention to the company’s guidelines on the kind of water to be used. The build up of minerals in the fountain can stop it from functioning properly.

Make sure that the copper water fountain has enough water to keep it running. Humidity and evaporation can reduce the water level in the fountain. Check the pump regularly. Draining the fountain a few times a year is essential. Periodically, check the other parts of your copper fountain. Keep them clean. This prevents the clogging up of the fountain due to algae, dead leaves or dust. The water in the fountain should be changed regularly.

After any cleaning method, you have to be careful to wipe off any traces of the cleaning liquid from the fountain’s surface. Don’t allow any cleansing solution, whether wax or polish, to run into the water supply of the fountain. This could ruin the pump. Never spray any cleaning solution directly onto the surface of the fountain. Spray it on a cloth and then clean the fountain.

Bear in mind that no matter how well you look after your copper fountain, sooner or later, it will show aging signs. The oxidation process is a natural one. You can delay it with good care but you can’t prevent it from happening eventually. But even if the color of the copper water fountain changes with time, with careful maintenance, you could enjoy it for many years to come.

I recently moved to a house that has a large (6′ X 6′) fountain basin sunken (about 2.5′ – 3′ deep) with its top rim nearly flush to the ground. It looks like it’s made of thick plastic or fiberglass and has Rubbermaid markings on two sides. I’ve noticed that even with recent rains, it’s maintained a fairly consistent water level of only about 1′. I’d like to raise the depth enough to where I could add fish, but I’m not exactly sure how that would work. Will the basin overflow during heavy rains, or is there some sort of valve I can’t see that runs the overage away? If I’m able to make it deep enough for the fish, could I leave it filled all winter without cracking the basin when it freezes? I did notice that the man I bought the house from had drained it this past winter.

I live in Ohio, if that gives you a sense of the climate. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Taking care of your water fountain during winter months can be difficult. If you keep your garden fountain in the outdoors, you risk damaging it with harsh weather conditions and poor water circulation.

Garden fountains are expensive and it is important to maintain them to maintain a beautiful looking and refreshing garden water feature for the next season.

Here are the 6 easy steps to effectively maintain your water fountain during the months of winter.

1) Drain all the water and clean it thoroughly.

2) Take apart different pieces of your outdoor fountain and place it in a safe place. If it is not possible for you to disassemble the fountain because of its size or location, considering placing it under a shed or in a weather controlled storage room like a garage.

3) Clean the pump and remove any debris that might have accumulated on the pump filter.

4) It is critically important to store your pump in the right place. It should be stored in an indoor place, preferably in a water bucket or container. Most of the pumps fail because of the air gaps and tube dryness issues.

5) Cover the fountain with a canvas weather proof material to protect it from harsh and damaging winter weather.

6) If you decide to keep your garden fountain in the outdoors, it is of utmost importance to cover the base of your fountain with absorbent materials like rolled towels or blankets. This is to protect the fountain basin from cracking from the water that turns into ice and expands.

7) When you assemble your garden fountain in next season, make sure you power up the pump in water and test it to remove any air gaps that are created in it. Do not assemble the fountain without testing and removing any air gaps in your fountain. Taking care of this upfront will save you from the hassle of fixing any pump issues before the tedious task of water fountain assembly has begun.

Following these simple and easy-to-implement steps will ensure a long life of your garden fountain. Small cracks and scratches are normal for an outdoor fountain, what really matters is the smooth and free flowing water passage for easy water circulation, a healthy pump, and a leak-free basin.

Finally, if you really miss your garden fountain during the winter months, consider looking into getting a tabletop fountain or a wall fountain to create an indoor oasis during the months of winter.

Most people avoid purchasing fountains because they think that caring for the investment is inconvenient. According to the professional fountain consultants at Plazafountains.com, this is clearly a myth. Outdoor fountain care is extremely important; however, it is really quite simple. In fact, caring for fountains should only take a few hours each month and typically is a matter of upkeep and cleaning maintenance. First, garden fountain care involves monthly cleaning to prevent algae build up and mineral deposits. There are many products available to ensure the job gets done. Contact a fountain consultant from Plazafountains.com for our preferred brands of cleaners.

Simple Garden Fountain Care

To keep gardens beautiful and fountains even more beautiful, simple maintenance is necessary. Let’s stress simple. Beyond cleaning fountains briefly each month, owners must also consider the basics of garden fountain care. This begins with pump maintenance. It can be distressing to have to replace pumps. In order to avoid replacement, owners can monitor the effectiveness of the pump simply. Pumps vary for different brands of fountains and include easy to follow directions. Let our professional consultants guide you as well with complete winter fountain care tips and suggestions at every stage of the process. Contact us directly at 1-800-609-1650.

Necessary Winter Fountain Care

When the storms of winters begin to rage, it is time to assess fountains and winter fountain care. Realistically, because of the quality constructions available from Plazafountains.com’s preferred manufactures, most fountains can withstand the test of time, but if possible, providing shelter for fountains may lengthen the life of the structure. If indoor shelter is not feasible, it is recommended by our outdoor fountain care experts that the fountain is drained and covered during harsh weather.
