Indoor Vs Garden Fountains – Why One Cannot Replace the Other

Most buyers do not know that fountains that work for the garden will not work indoors. Similarly, indoor fountains should not be bought for outdoor use. Many dealers will assure the buyer that indoor and outdoor fountains are not very different and that any fountain can be used in homes as well as gardens. However, there are quite a few differences between the two as mentioned below.
Material Used
Indoor fountains can be made of a number of materials such as metal, acrylic, bamboo, marble, and stone. These materials are not suitable for outdoor weather conditions. Metals, especially, can corrode easily. Marble also corrodes in polluted places. Garden fountains are built of stone, concrete, fiberglass, or bamboo. The materials can stand extreme climate, and do not require much maintenance. Stone and concrete are heavier than metal and fiberglass.
Setting
Indoor and garden fountains are meant for different settings. In a room or reception area, an indoor fountain needs to match the décor, including furniture, walls and windows. In addition, these fountains can be lighted up to make them the center of attention. Garden fountains need to be installed keeping in mind the backdrop, plants, and size. The advantage is that a few additional plants, stones, and other decorative pieces can lessen the clash between the setting and fountain in the garden. Indoors, you may need to go in for extensive renovation to make a mismatched fountain fit in.
Splashing
While both indoor and garden fountains can splash, outdoor fountain splashes are easier to deal with. Besides, the wind may sometimes blow spray from larger fountains to the grounds. A little splashing does not damage the garden, as long as the ground is made of non-corrosive material, or simply soil. Splashing indoors can be dangerous, causing people to slip on the wet floor. It also damages furniture and walls.
Size
In general, indoor fountains are smaller than garden fountains. Gardens are vast spaces, and a small fountain can appear dwarfed by tall plants and rock formations in the backdrop. Large fountains in indoor areas are inconvenient and difficult to maintain. Tabletop and wall fountains are ideal for the average home.
Community
Indoor fountains are personal – they reflect the taste of the owner and provide a private place for quiet work. Garden fountains are visible to all, and should be chosen appropriately. Community garden fountains provide a place for people to gather around and exchange gossip, news, and small talk.
Pool
Indoor fountains do not need a pool, as the water flows into a receptacle and back to the fountain spout. However, most garden fountains have a pool or pond. The pool can used for putting in aquatic plants and fish.
These are some of the major reasons a garden fountain should never be used indoors, and an indoor fountain should never be installed outdoors. Proper selection and use of fountains can enhance the quality of life, indoors as well as outdoors.
