Do solar powered fountains work?

I have a medium sized pond that is in a shaded area of my garden. I’ve seen a solar powered fountain but I’m not sure if it will work. I live in the Manchester area so not a lot of sun.
Should I buy one?
only during the day, and if it’s sunny. since it’s shady, i wouldn’t suggest it.

My experience has been that the solar-powered ones are not very powerful, and often don’t work at all, such as on a cloudy day. There are adaptors you can purchase that make it so you can place the solar panels in a different area than the fountain so that if you are in shade, you can theoretically place the panels in the sun, but even this way does not seem to give the fountain much “oomph.” If it were me, I’d save my money and buy a “real” (i.e., AC current powered) fountain with a reliable pump allows me to change the power/output, and will run whenever I want it to, instead of only when the cosmos allign and conditions are just right.
Hope this helps.
